Evatar LLC is a small, owner-operated company that provides AI consulting and software development. We are small, but the people who work with us, the people affected by what we build, and the people in the companies we buy from all deserve to be treated with dignity. This policy states what we commit to and how we act on it. It is written so that we can actually follow it at our size.
We are guided by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. Where the law sets a higher standard than this policy, we follow the law.
This policy applies to:
How we expect our contractors and vendors to meet the same standards is set out in our Contractor and Vendor Standards Policy.
Dignity and respect. We treat everyone we work with respectfully. We do not tolerate harassment of any kind, whether physical, verbal, psychological or sexual, toward anyone we work with or for.
Nondiscrimination. We make decisions about hiring, engaging contractors, pay, assignments and ending a working relationship on the basis of skills, performance and the needs of the work. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, pregnancy, marital status, veteran status or any other characteristic protected by law.
Fair working conditions. Anyone who works for or with Evatar:
Right to work. We only employ or engage people who are legally permitted to do the work in the place where they do it.
Health and safety. Most of our work is done remotely on computers. We still take reasonable care that working arrangements are safe and healthy, including reasonable hours, the right to take breaks and the right to raise a safety concern without penalty. If work ever involves on-site visits or travel, we follow the client's site safety rules and applicable law. We keep the workplace free from the illegal use, possession or sale of controlled substances.
No forced labor, child labor or human trafficking. We do not use, accept or tolerate forced labor, prison labor, bonded or indentured labor, slavery or human trafficking in any form. We do not employ or engage anyone under the minimum legal working age where the work is done, and never anyone under 16. We do not knowingly do business with anyone who does any of these things.
Responsible technology. Our work involves AI and software. We do not knowingly build systems whose purpose is to enable unlawful surveillance, discrimination, forced labor or other human rights abuses, and we decline work that would require it.
Anyone, inside or outside Evatar, can raise a concern about a possible breach of this policy or of the law in our work. That includes contractors, client staff and workers at one of our vendors.
If we find that this policy has been breached, by us or by someone working on our behalf, we:
We keep a short written record of every concern raised and every corrective action taken, for at least three years. The owner reviews this policy at least once a year, and also whenever Evatar hires its first employee, takes on a new kind of work, or a client's requirements change. Each review is dated in the version history below.
The owner is responsible for this policy, for making sure anyone working on Evatar's behalf knows about it, and for acting on concerns.
